Education is the Assurance for a Small Country

J.V. Snellman (1806-1881) a philosopher and an educator who played a very important and unique role in the emergence of Fin national identity.

A well-educated, highly skilled population in the modern world is the key to a country’s success. In the second half of the 1900’s, the Finnish population became one of the richest in the world, largely due to the demand, investment and commitment to the public education.

The foundations of the ongoing success of the Finnish education system were laid down in the 1800s. Finland decided that the entire nation would receive equal education. In this way, social inequalities between the educated and the uneducated lower class were avoided. The Finnish passion for learning has also influenced the whole country to further educate themselves.
