Freedom, democracy, human rights and the level of humanistic improvement in scandinavian peninsula stands in there as a great example for us, by illustrating what kind of a country or  a world we would like to live and how we want to live there.

Regarding education system, scandinavian countries are competing for the top, yet; Finland domes to the forefront among them, as well.

According to a lot of researches, Finland has one of the best education systems in the world. However, Finnish people still do not stop. they are about to do a historical reform in education. We can call it as the end of the traditional educational system.

Although Finnish education system is one of the best in the world, Finnish people do not find it enough.

Therefore, they put forward a new education philosophy which can be a real revolution regarding education history.

Finnish authorities are thinking about removing traditional school curriculum from the schools. there will be no physics, maths, literature, history, geography and so on!

Finnish authority Marjo Kyllönen explains those changes as follows:

“We are educating students with an old-fashioned system which was designed at the beginning of 1900 and which was beneficial at those years. Yet, the needs are not the same in modern world. so, we need an education model appropriate for 21 century.”

What does it mean? What kind of an educational model is being designed?

Events will be taught in a multidisciplinary way instead of classical lessons. for example, the second world war will be analyzed together with history, geography and maths.

Also, students who will take lessons as ‘working in a cafe’ will get education communication skills, English and economy.

Students will identify the tops that they want to study. For example, a student does not have to take all the units in chemistry or physics lessons or does not have to take tests for them. He/she will be responsible for topics chosen by student. They will not ask the question of ‘what is this lesson for?’ Moreover, change is limited to these. Traditional teacher-student communication will be changed totally.

Students will not only answer for questions at schools. instead, they will study together with their friends in small groups through discussions. This will promote them for collective works.

this will also affect teachers. They have to agree on different subjects by cooperating.

Almost 70 % teachers in Helsinki have already started getting required information for the new system.

This will also affect their salaries as pay rise.

system will firstly start with 16 years old students.

It is expected those changes will be completed until 2020.
