MentUwell – Erasmus+ Project

Preserving Youth Mental Wellbeing in Wartime Migration Crisis

About the Project

The MentUwell project addresses the challenges faced by young people aged 13–18 who experience psychological stress, social instability and integration difficulties due to war and migration. The project brings together universities, NGOs and educational organizations from across Europe to develop methodologies and tools that help educators support young migrants and youth in host communities.

The project was implemented within the Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnerships in Youth programme (KA220-YOU)between April 2023 and December 2025, with a total duration of 32 months.

Study Visit in Finland

As part of the project activities, FinEdu Consulting OY organized and hosted an international study visit in Helsinki between 11–15 December 2023.

During the study visit, project partners explored the Finnish education system and institutions supporting immigrant integration and mental wellbeing.

The programme included expert presentations and institutional visits covering topics such as:

  • the Finnish education system and immigrant students

  • social support systems for immigrants in Finland

  • special education practices in multicultural classrooms

  • mental health support mechanisms for immigrant communities

  • cooperation between NGOs and educational institutions

Participants visited several organizations working with immigrants and mental health support, including MIELI Mental Health Finland, Moniheli Ry and Fin Polar Kulttuurikeskus Ry gaining insights into practical approaches for supporting youth wellbeing and integration.

Good Practice from Finland

Within the project, FinEdu contributed to the development of good practice case studies from Finland.

One example is the Luontokoti project of Moniheli Ry, which promotes the wellbeing and social integration of immigrants through nature-based activities such as outdoor learning, excursions and community engagement.

The project demonstrates how Finland’s natural environment and community-based activities can help reduce social isolation, strengthen wellbeing and create opportunities for intercultural interaction among migrant communities.
